WYA shows your friends where you are when you choose to be seen. That only works if you trust it, so here is exactly what is collected, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.
| Email & password | Your MSU email identifies your account. Passwords are stored hashed by our authentication provider — nobody at WYA can read yours. |
| Profile | Display name, bio, profile picture, and any extra photos you add. |
| Location | Your position while the app is running, used to place you on the campus map. Positions outside the MSU campus area are discarded and never stored. |
| Check-ins | Bars you mark yourself at or on the way to, and a history used to work out your usual spots. |
| Messages | Messages you send, including photos, videos and voice notes. |
| Live photos | Photos and clips you post to a bar's wall. These delete themselves after 24 hours. |
| Notification token | An anonymous device identifier so messages and friend requests can reach you. |
People you have accepted as friends can see where you are. Nobody else can, and location is never sold, shared with advertisers, or given to bars.
In your profile you can set who sees you — private, friends of friends, or anyone at MSU — and change it whenever you want. Closing the app stops new location updates.
Open your profile and tap delete my account. That permanently removes your profile, photos, messages, check-in history and login. It cannot be undone.
Individual things can go on their own too: hold any message or live photo you posted to delete it, and undo a check-in from the bar's page.
WYA stores data with Supabase, on servers in the United States. Notifications are delivered through Expo. Both handle data on WYA's behalf and neither sells it.
WYA is for MSU students and rated 17+. It is not directed at children, and accounts require an @msu.edu email address.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected or who can see it, the date at the top changes and you will be told in the app.
